The story behind the brush

Discover the journey of each watercolour painting, from initial inspiration to the final stroke. Learn about the influences and techniques that make Art by Scott Hawkins truly unique.

Finding my artistic voice

My journey into watercolour began in the early 90s, initially as a hobby. Like many artists, I struggled to settle on a definitive style or theme. However, after studying L.S. Lowry's distinctive approach and his story telling within his artwork , I settled on that.

From inspiration to canvas

My creative process is quite simple: if I see an image that inspires me, I'll paint it. This direct approach allows for spontaneity and captures the raw emotion of the moment. Whether it's a bustling street, a serene seascape, a tranquil landscape, portraits or simple everyday objects , each painting is a direct response to the world around me.

Art that sparks reflection

Ultimately, I want my paintings to be slightly different—thought-provoking pieces that encourage viewers to stop and truly look. My aim is for my art to evoke a sense of curiosity and invite contemplation, offering a fresh perspective on familiar scenes and subjects. Each artwork is crafted to leave a lasting impression and stimulate personal reflection.

"Scott's art has a unique way of drawing you in. You find yourself spending time with each painting, discovering new details and feeling its depth. Truly thought-provoking."
